Cybermedia Commons

Overview

The Cybermedia Commons was opened on May 8, 2015, on the first-floor Main Hall at D3 Center, Osaka University. Cybermedia Commons is an active learning space for students, and makes use of a wide variety of the D3 Center’s information technology to support students’ active learning and research activities.
All Osaka University students and faculty are free to use the facility (when it is not otherwise in use for special activities such as lectures and workshops).

Facility Information

Based on ideas submitted in a university-wide competition, the Cybermedia Commons is broadly divided into six spaces. The concierge can provide details on how to use each of these spaces.

• 
  Mishite

  The Visualization Laboratory is designed around the “See” theme. It features a world-class, state-of-the-art large-scale 3D visualization system capable of displaying 24 6.5 m × 2.4 m full-HD high-resolution images on a large screen. It can be used as a room for lectures utilizing this system.

• 
  i→Re

  The Fabrication Laboratory is designed around the “create” theme. It features a variety of devices from visualization systems to 3D printers that can create 3D models, and allows the usage of sophisticated, normally-inaccessible devices.

• 
  e-Lounge

  「The free space is designed around the “Encounter” theme. It features internet-connected devices and multimedia devices for student use. Students can use it freely as a place to actively learn.

  Meeting

  The meeting room is designed around the “Talk” theme. It can be used as a small-scale meeting space for conferences and seminars.

• 
  Cafe

  The cafe is designed around the “Relax” theme. There are vending machines and mini-kitchen spaces. It can also be used for meetings that include a light meal.

Methods of utilization

All Osaka University students and faculty are free to use the facility whenever it is not otherwise in use for special activities such as lectures and workshops.
