COMMONS
Overview
The D3 Center Commons is an active learning space for students, and makes use of a wide variety of the D3 Center’s information technology to support students’ active learning and research activities.
- The Cyber Commons was opened on April 1, 2025, in the Main Hall of Toyonaka.
- The Cybermedia Commons was opened on May 8, 2015, on the first floor of the Main Hall of Suita.
Hours of Use and Eligibility for Use
The University of Osaka students and faculty are free to use the facility (when it is not otherwise in use for special activities such as lectures and workshops).

The Cyber Commons (Toyonaka)
Cyber Commons:
The Cyber Commons on the first floor is a calm and sophisticated space designed for study and collaboration, featuring a black-toned interior. It is open for use without reservation, not only for students but also for faculty and staff.
The room is equipped with movable desks and chairs, as well as whiteboards, making it ideal for brainstorming sessions when used with sticky notes and other tools.
Information related to The University of Osaka is also displayed on a transparent LED signage system installed on the glass walls.


Free Media Space:
The Free Media Space on the second and third floors provides self-study areas that take advantage of the open corridor and the three-story atrium.
The counter seating on the second floor offers an open atmosphere with views of the outside environment.
The third floor is designed as a flexible learning area, unconstrained by traditional styles, featuring a variety of sofas arranged to suit different needs.
Both floors are intended to accommodate a wide range of learning and study scenes.


Collab Square:
Collab Square, also on the first floor, offers an open learning space that makes full use of the glass walls spanning the building’s three stories.
The space is furnished with movable desks and chairs, allowing easy rearrangement for group work or study sessions based on different themes and group sizes.
Additionally, a four-screen multi-display system is available for collaborative activities.


The Cybermedia Commons (Suita)

Mishite
The Visualization Laboratory is designed around the “See” theme. It is equipped with a large projector (PA1004UL, resolution 1920×1080) and a 160-inch screen (16:9, approximately 3.5m × 2m). The system can also be used as a lecture room.

e-Lounge
The free space is designed around the “Encounter” theme. It is open for students to use freely as a place for independent study and learning.

Meeting
The meeting room is designed around the “Talk” theme. It can be used as a small-scale meeting space for conferences and seminars.

Cafe
The cafe is designed around the “Relax” theme. There are vending machines and mini-kitchen spaces. It can also be used for meetings that include a light meal.
Usage Guidelines
The space is freely available to all The University of Osaka students, faculty, and staff, except when reserved for events such as lectures or workshops.
